SOUTH WEST ROCKS NEW SOUTH WALES Oct 2024

South West Rocks is 450 Km North of Sydney and is highly regarded as one of the best shark spotting destinations in Eastern Australia.

Fish Rock is the site of one of the longest ocean caverns to swim through at 120 metres.

Teaming with bullseye fish, wobbegongs and bull rays it opens out to reveal the emerging fish and here are many well fed grey nurse sharks cruising around large schools of fish with a sun ball above there are innumerable opportunities the photograph the nurse sharks.

ACCOMODATION

All levels are available but convenient is the Seabreeze hotel near the beach. One of the 2 dive centres has basic accommodation a short walk from the township.

In 2024, I dived with Manly Dive Centre but in 2026 am returning with Nicholas Remy for a photo workshop.

LOCAL HISTORY

Trial Bay is an historical site nearby the Maclay river outlet. As gaol built in 1886 closed in 1904 it was used again as such again during WW1 for over 500 male of German descent.

Trial bay itself offers safe weather haven for sailing vessels transiting along the Eastern NSW coast. The Gaol is Heritage listed and a popular tourist destination.
